Carry on is the way to go. You have to be strategic but it’s definitely worth it.

In this guide, I’ll share tips and tricks on how to pack carry-on luggage. I’ll break down the art of packing a carry-on and a step-by-step approach to ensure your journey is not only memorable but hassle-free.
Creating a Compact and Complete Wardrobe
Start with the Right Carry-On Bag
First things first, invest in a high-quality, airline-compliant carry-on bag.
What constitutes a good carry-on bag?
You want to look for features like multiple compartments, durable materials, and the right dimensions according to **airline guidelines.
Most carry-on luggage these days will disclose on the outside labeling that they are airline approved.
Craft a Packing List
Planning is key!
Create a detailed packing list that includes all the essentials for your trip. You want to be prepared for it ALL so let’s talk through some things to consider.
Versatile Clothing Choices
When selecting clothing, think of versatility. Pack items that can easily transition from day to night, allowing you to mix and match effortlessly. Consider neutral colors and classic pieces that can be dressed up or down.
Layering Strategies for Various Climates
Layering is the key to adapting to different climates. Instead of bulky items, opt for lightweight layers. This not only keeps you comfortable but also maximizes outfit options. A mix of short and long-sleeved shirts, a sweater, and a jacket can cover a range of temperatures. As you go about your day, you can add and remove layers as needed. This will also help you maximize packing space.
Maximizing Outfit Combinations
Plan your outfits in advance and focus on pieces that can be combined in different ways. Accessories like scarves and jewelry can transform a basic outfit into a stylish ensemble.
Adventure Travel Considerations: Gear Up for Exploration
If your journey involves outdoor activities, pack suitable gear. A compact rain jacket, comfortable hiking shoes, and a collapsable water bottle. They are so convenient and easy to pack.
Now that your Packing list is made, lets get to packing…
Space-Saving Techniques: Packing Smart, Not Hard
Mastering the Art of Rolling vs. Folding
Experiment with rolling your clothes instead of folding. This technique minimizes wrinkles and maximizes space. However, for bulkier items like sweaters, folding might be more efficient.
Also consider wearing your bulkiest items, such as jackets or boots, during your flight to save luggage space. And if your like me, I’m always freezing on the plane so this works out perfectly.
Vacuum-sealed bags for Compression
For those bulkier items like sweaters, invest in vacuum-sealed bags. These bags are beneficial for saving space. They work by compressing your clothes, leaving you with extra room in your carry-on.
The Magic of Packing Cubes for Organization
Packing cubes are an absolute game-changer for staying organized! Trust me you’ll thank me later! Categorize your items into cubes, making it easy to find what you need without having to unpack your entire bag. I don’t know how my family traveled before without these.
Optimize Shoe Space
Utilize the empty spaces inside your shoes by stuffing them with socks, underwear, or small accessories.
Embrace Travel-Sized Toiletries
Be Mindful of Liquids and Gels. Follow TSA guidelines for liquids and gels, ensuring they are in containers of 3.4 ounces (100ml) or less and placed in a quart-sized, resealable plastic bag.
To ensure you are adhering to TSA guidelines be sure to streamline your toiletries by using travel-sized containers. Many stores offer refillable travel bottles for your favorite products.

Invest in accessories that serve multiple purposes.
Scarves can double as blankets, and versatile shoes can complement various outfits while keeping your luggage light.
